Summer 2017 Maintenance - Home Spaces EXPIRE June 14th, 2017

    In preparation for summer systems maintenance, please be aware of the following important information for those granted Home Space maintenance extensions:

    Friday, June 2nd, 2017 between 8:30am-4:30pm:

    1. Academic Macintosh Desktop LocalScratch drives will be cleared
    2. Faculty Office Macintosh Desktop LocalScratch drives will be cleared and locked
    3. Class Shares will be DELETED
    4. Game Art Caches - Unreal Derived Data Caches - will be DELETED
    5. Perforce Depots will be DELETED
    6. Other academic resources expired

    Wednesday, June 14th, 2017 between 1am-4:30pm: 

    1. Your Network Home Space will be DELETED

    Information you need to know:

    • All files in your network home space will be permanently removed 
      • Please make a backup (save a copy) of files from your home space to a cloud storage solution such as your Ringling-issued Google Drive (more information). Students currently have unlimited Google Drive storage space.
      • Do not use campus Macintosh desktop LocalScratch drives as a space for personal file backup.
      • Your Google account (including email and Google Drive) will NOT be affected.  
    • Class shares (including custom group shares) will also be permanently removed
      • Backup any files you wish to preserve from these shares.
    • Game Art Caches will be disabled and cleaned up
      • The data in the Unreal derived data caches (DDC) is all temporary, reproduceable data.  Please update project settings appropriately to avoid errors due to the absence of a DDC.
    • Perforce Depots will be permanently removed
      • Please be sure to have the latest copies of projects from spring perforce depots prior to the June 2nd expiration date.
    • Academic Lab Macintosh Desktop Local Scratch drives will be cleared
      • In preparation for summer programs utilizing academic resources, LocalScratch on academic computer lab Macintosh desktops will cleared.  
    • Faculty Office Macintosh Desktop LocalScratch drives will be cleared and locked
      • Due to plans for summer Macintosh hardware/software upgrades please backup/archive any files you wish to preserve from LocalScratch.   To prevent subsequent file loss during these summer transitions,  we will also lock LocalScratch.
    • Specialized academic resources may also be expiring
      • You may also receive email notification that additional academic resources that have a limited lifetime are expiring on June 2nd, 2017.  If you have questions about any planned expiration, please contact the IT Help Desk for assistance.

    Please note: Student and faculty home spaces will not be available on Wednesday, June 14th from 1 AM to 4:30 PM.

    Additional End-of-Year Tech Tips

    Graduating seniors, please note these technology services that are currently available for alumni accounts: 

    • Ringling College email address 
    • Current Google App resources (Gmail, Google Drive, etc.)
    • Personal web space at www.ringling.edu/~username (1G max size)
    • IMPORTANT: Alumni accounts cannot be used in academic computer labs.
