Known Issues

    InCopy Fails to Launch

    Symptom: InCopy simply does not launch.

    Solution:

    If you receive the following message:

    "Windows Protected your PC.
    Windows Defender SmartScreen prevented an unrecognized app from starting.  Running this app might put your PC at risk."

    • Click "More Info" at the bottom of the screen.
    • Click "Run anyway."

    Once the install completes, you should be able to launch InCopy.  

    If you are still unable to open InCopy, please contact Institutional Technology for assistance.

     

     

    InDesign Fails To Launch

    Symptom: InDesign simply does not launch.

    Solution:

    If you receive the following message:

    • Click "More Info" at the bottom of the screen.
    • Click "Run anyway."

    Once the install completes, you should be able to launch InDesign.

    Licensing Errors

    Issue:  Occasionally you may receive a licensing error with Ringling-provided software you are attempting to open.

    Solution:  Make sure you are connected to internet and that you have a valid GlobalProtect VPN connection.

    Some of the software that we provide uses a "shared license." This means that when you use the software either on or off campus, a license is “checked out” to you for select applications. This process happens transparently, but you do need to be connected to the Internet once every 30 days to be able to check out a license.

    The software we use to manage the licenses is called KeyAccess. This program runs automatically as required for the “keyed” applications. KeyAccess will report an error if it cannot connect through the Internet to check out a license. As long as you are connected to the Internet and the notebook can access the license server at Ringling College, you should not receive any error messages. 

     

     

    Printer Installation Troubleshooting

    If you find that the printer has not installed correctly the first time, a second install should solve the issue for you.

    If you are still unable to print after a second install, please contact IT for assistance.

     

     

    Youtube and Vimeo Stutter

    Youtube and Vimeo will try to set playback to 4K, when available, on 4K devices, which can cause moderate to severe stuttering during playback.

    Simply decrease the video quality to HD for a smoother playback. Typically, there will be a "gear" icon to change settings such as playback speed and resolution.
