By checking out the notebook you are agreeing be financially responsible for excessive damage, loss, or theft, and since those things are not covered under the manufacturer warranty, we highly encourage you to purchase renter's insurance.

Parts and Labor Coverage

The notebook on loan to you from Ringling College is covered for any parts and labor necessary due to manufacturer defect for the duration of the manufacturer warranty. This means that the device warranty will cover any products that fail to perform under regular use during the warranty period. Consumable items such as batteries and some additional third-party accessories that did not come in the computer's packaging (such as usb adapters or keyboards) provided during orientation remain the students responsibility to maintain.

Accidental damage such as liquid intrusion or other types of physical damage or theft is not covered, and an insurance policy is highly recommended to cover such an event. Please contact the Institutional Technology department, so we may assist you with support and repair options.

Our Notebook support staff can assist in determining repair options and what, if any out-of-pocket costs there might be. If there is out-of-warranty repair necessary or damage such as screen cracks, liquid intrusion we can provide a repair estimate and you can decide how you wish to proceed.

Accidental damage, loss due to fire, natural disaster, theft, and more can be covered by NSSI starting as low as $6.34/month (billed annually)*. We highly recommend considering this for additional peace of mind. Additional equipment and devices such as smartphones, tablets, cameras, and more can be added to this policy.

*quote determined by choosing $2500 worth of coverage and a $50 deductible, see website for more details.

NSSI has provided Ringling a special enrollment portal so students may review coverage options and decide if they wish to enroll: https://www.nssi.com/ringlingfl

Ringling will receive an enrollment list of participants, and those who have chosen to opt-out. Purchasing accidental damage insurance is not mandatory, but can save you a lot of out-of-pocket expenses for unforeseen events. Should you need to have your Ringling provided notebook repaired, bring it to Notebook Services to be evaluated. We can help facilitate the repair process, and will provide a quote if it will not be an in-warranty repair. If you agree to the quote we will handle getting the repair done for you and if there are out-of-pocket expenses, the charges will be given to the Bursar's office and a STOP placed on your student account.

A STOP placed on your account will prevent signing up for classes or the sending of transcripts until your financial obligations have been met. If you have an active insurance policy in effect you will then submit the invoice to your insurance to begin the claims process. Upon successful resolution of your claim, the STOP will be removed from your student account.

Loss or Theft

In cases of loss or theft on campus be sure to inform the office of Public Safety and Institutional Technology right away. In the event of theft occurring while off-campus, contact the local law enforcement and in both cases please provide a copy of any police reports to IT.
