      Parts and Labor Coverage

      Your notebook is completely covered for any parts and labor necessary due to manufacturer defect for the duration of the manufacturer warranty. This means that the device warranty will cover any products that fail to perform under regular use during the warranty period. Some items such as batteries are considered consumable and the amount of runtime will lessen over time. As such, we will need to have it evaluated to determine if it is normal wear or an actual battery failure. Please bring your notebook into our Notebook Services department, during regular business hours, for any assistance with the notebook. 

      Our notebook support staff can assist in determining repair options and what, if any out-of-pocket costs there might be. If there are expenses related to out-of-warranty repair necessary or damage such as screen cracks, liquid intrusion, etc, we can provide a repair estimate and you can decide how you wish to proceed.

      Accidental damage, loss, theft and more can be covered by supplemental group policy insurance.  We highly recommend considering this for additional peace of mind comprehensive coverage. 

      In cases of theft be sure to let Public Safety and Institutional Technology know right away and please provide us with a copy of the police report if necessary.

      Notebook Insurance Recommended

      Your notebook is covered under the manufacturer warranty program; however, that warranty does not cover accidental damage and may not extend for the entirety of your study at Ringling College.  For example, Wacom Mobile Studio Pro notebooks come with a one year manufacturer warranty. Students who receive a notebook from Ringling College are highly encouraged to obtain portable electronics insurance to cover the deductible of up to $1,500.00 for aaccidental damage and extended repair coverage to the notebook. Students can purchase portable electronics insurance through either their homeowner’s insurance agency, rental insurance, or through several companies that offer such insurance.

      What is Accidental Damage?

      Accidental damage is defined as an unexpected and unintentional external event, resulting in physical damage to the notebook or its accessories. Examples of accidental damage covered under a portable electronics policy include, but are not limited

      • Drops
      • Falls
      • Collisions
      • Liquid Spills

      What About Other Damages?

      A portable electronics policy will also cover other events, such as:

      • Lightning
      • Power Surges
      • Fire
      • Natural Disasters
      • Theft
      • Vandalism

      The cost of the policy is varies per company, so shop around for best pricing and coverage. Some homeowner’s and renter's insurance policies may include the same or similar coverage for a small increase in premium, so you may want to check with your insurance agency before purchasing a policy from another insurer.
